An API key you create and can delete
You generate the key at Alpaca and paste it once. It is encrypted and read only at the moment an order is placed. Deleting it at Alpaca ends the connection immediately, with nothing to cancel here first.
Worth knowing
Paper is a separate account
Paper and live are different accounts with different keys, so switching is a deliberate act rather than a toggle you can flip by mistake. Assignment and exercise on options create real stock positions there, and those arrive in your positions view as stock rather than being attributed to the option rule that led to them.
